Our Computer Awareness course is an excellent course for the beginner who may be commencing a new job that requires basic computer skills. It also suits the new home user or small business operator planning to install a computer.

Beginning with just the essential terminology one needs to be aware of, it avoids excessive use of “computer jargon”. It covers proper use of the keyboard and mouse, before introducing the basics of the Windows operating system. Participants are then introduced to the fundamental elements of word processing, spreadsheets and database. The Microsoft Office program is used for these applications.

This is a hands-on course that really works, by covering just what a newcomer needs to know about the three main uses of personal computers in business.

This 8- hour course is the ideal pre-requisite for beginners who wish to go on to our other courses.

Computer Awareness course

Windows:

¤ Learn the essential aspects of the Windows operating system
¤ Examine the uses of Windows Explorer

Word processing:

¤ Understand the keyboard
¤ Type correspondence, save it and retrieve it from disk
¤ Make corrections and format your text for effect
¤ Check spelling and arrange your document to fit the page
¤ Place simple graphics and photos into your document

Speadsheeting:

¤ Learn layout techniques for creating simple spreadsheets
¤ Enter text and numbers into your spreadsheet
¤ Correct errors and format your work for effect
¤ Create calculations to add, subtract and multiply
¤ Save your spreadsheet and retrieve it from disk

Database:

¤ Understand database terminology and work with an existing database
¤ Design and create a simple database
¤ Use queries, forms and reports to interrogate a database
